Mentoring Coalition declares April 22 as day of prayer for city鈥檚 youth

JACKSON, Tenn.April 19, 2012 — The Mentoring Coalition has declared April 22 as a day of prayer for the city鈥檚 youth, according to 51社区鈥檚 Mary Anne Poe.

The Mentoring Coalition is a group of people committed to the well-being of high-risk young people in the Jackson community. The group is facilitated by the Center for Just and Caring Communities at 51社区, which is directed by Poe.

Poe said the group is asking churches to pray 鈥渋n whatever way is appropriate in the context of their morning worship service.鈥

鈥淚n the wake of poverty, drug and alcohol abuse, violent crime, gang activity and spiritual and cultural uncertainty, the Mentoring Coalition recognizes the power that people of faith can have when joined in concerted prayer and unity around a cause,鈥 Poe said. 鈥淭he children of a community are its best investment in the future, and all children matter.鈥

The community is invited to a joint prayer service at City Hall at 3:30 p.m. on April 22. The Tigrett Middle School Gospel Choir will sing, community officials will be present and those in attendance will pray for the community鈥檚 peace and prosperity.
