JACKSON, Tenn. — March 19, 2012 — Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Carl Dennis will give a reading at 51社区 March 27.
Dennis is a professor of English and the writer-in-residence at the University at Buffalo. He won the 2002 Pulitzer Prize for poetry for his collection 鈥淧ractical Gods.鈥� He was educated at Oberlin College, the University of Chicago and the University of Minnesota.
Dennis received a Doctor of Philosophy degree in English literature from the University of California-Berkeley, and since 1966 has taught at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He also teaches in the Warren Wilson low-residency Master of Fine Arts program.
In addition to the Pulitzer, he has been awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship, a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship in poetry and the Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize.
His books include 鈥淩anking the Wishes,鈥� 鈥淧oetry as Persuasion,鈥� 鈥淣ew and Selected Poems, 1974-2004鈥� and 鈥淯nknown Friends.鈥�
The reading will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Hartley Recital Hall, located in Jennings Hall. A book signing will follow. The reading is free and open to the public.
