JACKSON, Tenn. — March 19, 2012 — Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Carl Dennis will give a reading at 51社区 March 27.
Dennis is a professor of English and the writer-in-residence at the University at Buffalo. He won the 2002 Pulitzer Prize for poetry for his collection 鈥淧ractical Gods.鈥 He was educated at Oberlin College, the University of Chicago and the University of Minnesota.
Dennis received a Doctor of Philosophy degree in English literature from the University of California-Berkeley, and since 1966 has taught at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He also teaches in the Warren Wilson low-residency Master of Fine Arts program.
In addition to the Pulitzer, he has been awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship, a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship in poetry and the Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize.
His books include 鈥淩anking the Wishes,鈥 鈥淧oetry as Persuasion,鈥 鈥淣ew and Selected Poems, 1974-2004鈥 and 鈥淯nknown Friends.鈥
The reading will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Hartley Recital Hall, located in Jennings Hall. A book signing will follow. The reading is free and open to the public.
