JACKSON, Tenn. — March 19, 2012 — Mike Weeks, chairman of the 51社区 Foundation board and former chairman of Union鈥檚 Board of Trustees, died March 17 at age 63 after a battle with cancer.
鈥淲e thank God for the faithful life and witness of Mike Weeks,鈥� 51社区 President David S. Dockery said. 鈥淲e are especially grateful for his years of loyal service in behalf of the 51社区 Board of Trustees, as well as the Union Foundation board.鈥�
A native of Tupelo, Miss., Weeks served as trustee chairman from 2002-2005 and had been chairman of the Union Foundation board since 2010. He also served for three years as chairman of the Board of Trustees鈥� finance and audit committee.
Weeks retired in 2007 as president of the Southern Baptist Foundation, a position he held for five years. He previously served in a variety of roles with BancorpSouth, including executive vice president.
The trustees鈥� executive committee at their recent spring meeting voted to recognize Weeks鈥� years of service to Union by naming the room where trustees regularly meet in the Carl Grant Events Center in Weeks鈥� honor.
Visitation will be held March 21 from 6-8 p.m. at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home in Franklin, Tenn. A brief visitation will also be held at Brentwood Baptist Church March 22 from 10-10:45 a.m., with the funeral service following at 11 a.m. Jerry Tidwell, Union鈥檚 senior vice president for university relations, will officiate.
