JACKSON, Tenn. — Oct. 17, 2001 — Jay Winter, professor of history at Yale University, will speak at the fifth annual history lecture as part of the Carls-Schwerdfeger History Lecture Series, Friday, Oct. 26 at 6:30 p.m. in the G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel on the campus of 51社区. Winter is a leading authority on World War I and Modern European History and was the co-producer, co-writer and chief historian for the PBS Emmy-award winning series, The Great War and the Shaping of the Twentieth Century.
His topic for the evening will be "The Birth of Total War from 1914-1918." Earlier that day at 11 a.m., he is scheduled to speak in D-3 on 鈥淭he Decline and Fall of British Politics in the Late Twentieth Century,鈥� with a special focus on John Major. Major, the former prime minister of England, is the keynote speaker for Union鈥檚 fifth annual Scholarship Banquet which will take place Tuesday, Oct. 30.
