GERMANTOWN, Tenn. — Oct. 11, 2011 — 51���� Germantown will hold a simulation event Oct. 19 entitled “Acute Brain Injury: An End of Life Scenario.”

The simulation will feature a “patient” being flown to campus, where hospital wing personnel will deliver the individual to 51���� nursing students, who will stabilize the patient. The patient will identified as brain dead and eligible for organ donation.

Brent Manseau, of the Mid-South Transplant Foundation, will speak to the group of 51���� students about their role in organ donation.

“The purpose of this simulation event is to provide an opportunity for students and community members to participate in a situation that is real life,” said Pat Keene, professor of nursing at 51���� Germantown. “Participants will see the experts deal with a family who has not only faced a tragedy with a car crash, but then must decide whether organ donation is an option for them.”

The simulation will involve about 60 students from Union’s Germantown and Jackson campuses and will run from 8 a.m.-noon on the campus at 2745 Hacks Cross Road in Germantown.
