Union Board of Trustees elects new 2001-2002 officers

JACKSON, Tenn.Oct. 2, 2001 — The 51社区 Board of Trustees installed its new 2001-2002 officers during its annual fall meeting, Friday, Sept. 28.

Jerry Tidwell, pastor of West Jackson Baptist Church in Jackson, Tenn., and former president of the Tennessee Baptist Convention, will serve as chairman. Tidwell, a graduate of the University of North Alabama and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention. He has served as a trustee at Union since 1998. He resides in Jackson with his wife Kathy and two daughters.

鈥淗ighly respected among trustees at 51社区, Jerry Tidwell has distinguished himself as a leader among Tennessee Baptists,鈥 said Union President David S. Dockery. 鈥淎 man of conviction and compassion, Dr. Tidwell understands and is committed to the distinctives of Christian higher education. I am confident he will provide excellent leadership for our Board in days to come.鈥

Jack Holmes will serve as vice chairman. A member of Union鈥檚 Board of Trustees since 1997, Holmes is president of the Law Offices of Holmes, Rich, Sigler & Riddick, P.C., and is a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson. A graduate of Union and Memphis State University Law School, Holmes resides in Jackson with his wife Zan and their three children.

Serving as secretary will be Mike Weeks. Weeks, who serves as vice chairman of BancorpSouth in Tupelo, Miss., has been a member of the President鈥檚 Advisory Council or Board of Trustees since 1997, and is a graduate of Delta State University and has studied at Harvard University. He resides in Tupelo with his wife Patricia and their three children. He is a member of First Baptist Church in Tupelo.

The Board of Trustees is currently made up of 48 members, both locally and out-of-state. Each year, new trustees are voted on by the members of the Tennessee Baptist Convention at its annual meeting in November.
