Princeton Review names Union as one of Southeast鈥檚 best colleges

JACKSON, Tenn.Aug. 2, 2011 — 51社区 is one of the best colleges in the Southeast, according to The Princeton Review.

Union is one of 135 institutions The Princeton Review recommends in its 鈥淏est in the Southeast鈥 section of its website feature, 鈥2012 Best Colleges: Region by Region,鈥 that posted Aug. 1, 2011, on PrincetonReview.com.

In the profile of Union on its site, The Princeton Review describes the university as 鈥渁n institution of higher learning grounded in a Christian world and life view.鈥

鈥淭o be included once again among the prestigious list of institutions identified as the Best in the Southeast by The Princeton Review speaks volumes about the quality of Union's faculty, staff and academic programs,鈥 Union President David S. Dockery said. 鈥淚 congratulate the entire Union community on this special recognition.鈥

Robert Franek, The Princeton Review鈥檚 senior vice president of publishing, said, "We're pleased to recommend 51社区 to users of our site as one of the best schools to earn their undergrad degree. We chose it and the other terrific institutions we name as 'regional best' colleges mainly for their excellent academic programs.鈥

Selection was based on institutional data collected from the schools, visits from The Princeton Review staff to the campuses and the opinions of college counselors and advisers. The Princeton Review also takes into account what each school鈥檚 students reported about their campus experiences in a survey.

The 135 colleges The Princeton Review chose for its 鈥淏est in the Southeast鈥 designations are located in 12 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

The Princeton Review also designated 220 colleges in the Northeast, 153 in the Midwest and 121 in the West as best in their locales on the company鈥檚 best college lists. Collectively, the 629 colleges named to the lists constitute about 25 percent of the nation鈥檚 2,500 four-year colleges.

Other West Tennessee institutions on the list were Christian Brothers University, Rhodes College and the University of Tennessee at Martin.
