JACKSON, Tenn. — Sept. 27, 2001 — The Art Department at 51社区 will host an exhibit by artist Kent Butler, Thursday, Oct. 4, through Monday, Nov. 5, in the Art Gallery located in the Penick Academic Complex.
The solo exhibit is titled 鈥淓xclusion and Embrace.".
Butler is a Los Angeles-based artist who works in a variety of mediums such as video installation, performance and photography. He has had both solo and group exhibitions throughout the country. He recently had a solo exhibition in Florence, Italy, titled 鈥淢y Body is not My Own.鈥�
He describes his work as a self-examination of his soul.
鈥淚t both represents and sometimes is my process of ritual and spiritual experience,鈥� said Butler. 鈥淚t is a metaphor for the eternal quality of my spiritual body and the ephemeral quality of my physical body, and for how these coexist with one another.鈥�
Butler received his bachelor of science degree from Biola University in La Mirada, Calif., where he is a professor of art and received his master's of fine arts degree from California State University in Fullerton, Calif. He is also a professor of art at Azusa Pacific University.
