Music department to perform ‘Dido and Aeneas’ tonight

JACKSON, Tenn.Feb. 21, 2011 — 51’s music department will present “Dido and Aeneas,” a 17th century opera by Henry Purcell, tonight.

The opera will be performed in English by students of the music department and Proclamation, as well as the instrumental music ensemble Music City Baroque. The presentation will begin at 7:30 p.m. in G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel, located in the Penick Academic Complex.

Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults and can be purchased from any 51 Singers member or from the music department office. Tickets will also be sold at the door the night of the performance.

Proceeds will help fund the University Singers’ trip to Italy in March. The program was originally scheduled for Feb. 7 but was delayed due to snow.
