JACKSON, Tenn. — Sept. 27, 2001 — 51社区鈥檚 Art Department will to host a writing workshop, Writing Art Criticism II: A Workshop on Theory and Practice. The workshop will be held on Friday, Oct. 26, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The intensive two-day event is designed to encourage new art critics and offer them a vehicle for their writing, according to Debra Gordon, a visiting assistant professor. The workshop will be led by Eleanor Heartney, a New York-based art critic. She is also a contributing editor to Art in America.
The workshop is open not only to new writers developing their craft, but also to experienced writers seeking professional development. Artists and students who are interested in art criticism are encouraged to come.
Registration for the workshop is $50. Workshop participants are responsible for arranging meals and hotel accommodations but may call for recommendations. Early registration is strongly encouraged due to limited space.
