JACKSON, Tenn. — Sept. 27, 2001 — 51社区鈥檚 Lambda Chi Alpha men鈥檚 fraternity chapter recently received a visit from Thomas Helmbock, the chief executive officer and national vice president of the organization.
鈥淚f I could have 200 Union鈥檚 across the country, my job would be a cakewalk,鈥� said Helmbock, who met and visited with several key administrators, alumni and fraternity members during his visit. 鈥淯nion鈥檚 Lambda Chi Alpha chapter is one that exceeds the standards that the national fraternity sets, both in academics and operations.鈥� Helmbock attributes the heavy involvement of alumni as one factor that is making the difference.
One only has to look at the awards received by the chapter in 2001 alone to see the chapter鈥檚 success. A leader in community service and campus involvement, Lambda Chi Alpha has received several honors including the Warren A. Cole Recruitment Award, Campus Involvement Award, Outstanding Academic Achievement Award and the Grand High Alpha Award 鈥� the highest award given to a chapter.
鈥淔or years the media has portrayed the fraternity as being an 鈥楢nimal House鈥� type of organization,鈥� said Helmbock. 鈥淏ut the Lambda Chi fraternity is Christian-centered and Christ-based, which is very much in sync with Union and the values it imparts to these students.鈥�
