JACKSON, Tenn. — Nov. 5, 2010 — Organist Gillian Weir will be the featured performer for this year鈥檚 McAfee Organ Concert Nov. 11 at 51社区.
Weir is an internationally acclaimed concert organist, and has performed worldwide at many major festivals with leading orchestras. Her concerts over the past year have included the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, Spivey Hall in Atlanta, the American Guild of Organists in Phoenix and several other concert halls, cathedrals and universities.
A native of New Zealand, Weir studied at the Royal College of Music in London from 1962-1965. She is the Prince Consort Professor of Organ at the Royal College of Music, and the Distinguished Visiting Artist at the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore.
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel on Union鈥檚 campus. The event is free and open to the public.
