JACKSON, Tenn. — Sept. 25, 2001 — 51社区鈥檚 Department of Music will present organist John Weaver to perform on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 8:15 p.m. for the annual McAfee Organ Recital. Weaver will perform in the G. M. Savage Memorial Chapel located in the Penick Academic Complex on the university鈥檚 campus.
Weaver has been director of music at Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City since 1970, head of the organ department at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia since 1972, and was named chair of The Julliard School Organ Department in 1987.
In 1995 he was awarded the doctor of music degree from Westminster College in New Willmington P.A. He served on the faculties of the Westminister Choir College, Union Theological Seminary, and The Manhattan School of Music, and he spent eleven years ministering at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in New York City where he founded the famous Bach Cantata Services.
Weaver has played throughout North America, Western Europe, and the United Kingdom, presenting recitals from his extensive repertoire of memorized programs drawn from every important era and national school of the organ literature.
The McAfee Organ Recital is held annually in honor of James and Carolyn McAfee. While at Union, Weaver will play the McAfee Visser-Rowland Organ named in honor of Carolyn McAfee.
