JACKSON, Tenn. — Sept. 21, 2010 — About 150 representatives from Baptist universities all over the country will be at 51社区 Sept. 22-24 for the 23rd meeting of the Consortium for Global Education.
CGE was established in 1987 as a means for Baptist colleges and universities to engage in international opportunities.
鈥淚t has developed into a very active organization that helps our schools develop relationships with universities and other entities internationally,鈥� said Cynthia Jayne, Union鈥檚 associate provost for intercultural and international studies and CGE liaison.
CGE consists of about 45-50 member institutions, including such universities as Baylor, Belmont, California Baptist, Oklahoma Baptist, Samford and Union. International partners include such institutions as Qingdao University and the Yanbian University of Science and Technology in China, the Ministry of Culture in Bhutan and Lithuania Christian College, among others.
Jayne said one of the goals of CGE is to enable the institutions to work together to provide opportunities for their students that they couldn鈥檛 provide by themselves.
鈥淭he conference will provide an opportunity for our universities to communicate with each other the initiatives that they have going on,鈥� Jayne said. 鈥淎 lot of ideas for new partnerships are born out of these conversations.鈥�
CGE offers startup grants for international projects, so Jayne said the conference will also allow member institutions to report on how they have used those funds, and on the entirety of their international work.
Pre-conference activities, including a welcome reception and a concert by Keith and Kristyn Getty, will begin on the evening of Sept. 22. The conference begins Sept. 23, with the first plenary session at 9 a.m., and will continue until noon Sept. 24. The conference will consist of various workshops and small group meetings, as well as three plenary sessions in the Carl Grant Events Center.
