JACKSON, Tenn. — Aug. 30, 2010 — The name of the Hope Residence Complex at 51社区 will tell future generations the story of how God saved the university from the 2008 tornado and provided opportunities to move forward, Union President David S. Dockery said.
鈥淗ope Quad comes as a testimony to the hope that God gave to us as a gift to sustain us coming out of Feb. 5, 2008,鈥 Dockery said at a special dedication ceremony for the complex Aug. 27. 鈥淗ope is not a wish. It is a confident assurance in who God is and in his promises, a God who is active in the past and the God who has given us a future and who helps us today. It is that God who gives us hope.鈥
Hope Quad contains three residential buildings with 38 apartments and a capacity of 149 students. The fourth building to complete the quad is scheduled for construction at a later date.
Since the tornado, Union has built 20 residential buildings, with 246 apartments and 965 bedrooms.
At the ceremony, Dockery thanked Brasfield Construction and TLM Associates Inc. for their work in building and designing the facility, as well as Kimberly Thornbury, Union鈥檚 dean of students, and Gary Carter, senior vice president for business services, for their contributions to the project.
A plaque to be affixed to one of the buildings in the complex says the Hope Quad is 鈥渄edicated to the glory of our great and providential God with gratitude for the gift of sustaining hope.鈥
