JACKSON, Tenn. — Sept. 19, 2001 — 51社区 will hold its annual GO Week, Monday, Sept. 24 through Friday, Sept. 28. This year鈥檚 theme for the annual event, which is held each fall semester, is 鈥淒arkness to Light,鈥� based on 1 Peter 2:9-10, and is designed to inform and inspire students by focusing on what God is doing through mission work in the United States and around the world.
Students will be given the opportunity to learn about GO Trips for the Spring of 2002 and apply to take mission journeys in the summer, learn about local community ministries, and take time to understand God鈥檚 call to make disciples of all the nations, according to Suzanne Frost, director of student outreach.
鈥淕O Week is a great time for students to develop a global mindset,鈥� said Frost. 鈥淚n Revelation 7:9-10, it says that people of all nations, tribes, people, and tongues will surround the throne of God, and we are all called as Christians to make that happen by going into the world and spreading the good news. We cannot ignore the lost of the world.鈥�
The week will kick off with a special chapel service on Monday led by Todd Brady, minister to the university, and students will learn where the locations of the upcoming 2002 trips will be.
Throughout the week Union will host 鈥淕lobal Gatherings鈥� in which special guests will lead panel discussions about specific issues relating to ministry. On Monday and Tuesday, more than 50 representatives from Christian camps, ministries, and mission agencies will take part in an exhibition in the cafeteria to inform students of summer opportunities. In addition, a special Community Volunteer Fair will take place on Tuesday in the Student Union Building. Local organizations will let students know how they can be part of mentoring youth, prison ministry, Big Brother and Big Sister programs, and other community ministries. Concluding the week will be a Friday chapel service with students who have participated in the various programs before sharing their experiences.
