JACKSON, Tenn. — Feb. 4, 2010 — 51社区 senior Albert L. 鈥淪hep鈥� Shepherd has received a $25,000 scholarship through the Jackson Rotary Club for one year of graduate study in Scotland.
鈥淚t definitely has given me a direction in which to move in after graduation,鈥� Shepherd said. 鈥淚t seems like God has given me a great opportunity and is kind of directing my steps with it.鈥�
The Jackson Rotary Foundation Award is given to a resident of Madison County to promote academic excellence and to help build relationships with other countries. Shepherd has applied at the University of Aberdeen, the University of Edinburgh and the University of St. Andrews, but is leaning toward Aberdeen.
He plans to pursue either a one-year Master of Theology degree or a one-year master鈥檚 degree in literature, which would focus on biblical literature.
Shepherd, of Jackson, will graduate from Union in May with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in biblical languages.
