JACKSON, Tenn. — Oct. 26, 2009 — 51’s career services office will host the ninth annual Career “U”niversity Oct. 29 to provide students with career advice and a chance to meet with recruiters.
Career U is an academic approach to career planning and preparation, and this year’s event will focus on topics related to internships – such as interviewing strategies, internship salary negotiation and how to turn part-time experience into a full-time position.
“The current state of our country’s economy dictates the need for our students to become more competitive as well as attractive to top companies,” said Reneé Jones, assistant director of recruitment and information technology in Career Services. “An internship experience will help to provide the solution to both needs.”
Recruiting companies that will be represented at Career U include Enterprise Rent-A-Car, LifeWay Christian Resources, National Guard, Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, Regions Bank, the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, Sen. Bob Corker’s office, Target and Wal-Mart.
The event is free to students and runs from 2:30-5:30 p.m. in the Barefoot Student Union Building. Students may register and get more information at or by calling (731) 661-5421.
