Tanner, Emerson to discuss bipartisanship at Union鈥檚 Jones Lecture

JACKSON, Tenn.Oct. 5, 2009 — Two U.S. representatives will speak about bipartisanship in Washington as part of the Jones Lecture at 51社区 Oct. 12.

John Tanner (D-Union City, Tenn.) and Jo Ann Emerson (R-Cape Girardeau, Mo.) will talk about why bipartisanship doesn鈥檛 occur more often, when it does occur and how congressional reform could bring about more bipartisanship, according to Union political science professor Sean Evans.

鈥淭hey are two good people to talk about this, because both are leaders of the moderate wings of their parties,鈥 Evans said.

Tanner and Emerson will each speak for about 20-25 minutes, and then take questions from those in attendance. The lecture begins at 7 p.m. in the Carl Grant Events Center. It is free and open to the public.
