Union alum Ezell to be nominated for Pastors’ Conference presidency

JACKSON, Tenn.June 5, 2009 — 51 graduate Kevin Ezell, senior pastor of Highview Baptist Church in Louisville, Ky., will be nominated for president of the Southern Baptist Pastors’ Conference during its June 21-22 meeting in Louisville, Ky.

Ezell, a 1985 Union graduate, is a native of Paducah, Ky., and has served as pastor of churches in Illinois, Tennessee and Texas. He also holds degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

“I have known Kevin Ezell for almost 20 years since the time that I had the privilege to serve as his Doctor of Ministry supervisor,” 51 President David S. Dockery said. “It has been a wonderful joy to observe Kevin over the past dozen years as he has boldly and faithfully led the Highview Baptist Church in Louisville.

“He has that special gift to bring encouragement to those who serve around him,” Dockery continued. “I know that he will bring that kind of pastoral encouragement for pastors across the Southern Baptist Convention if elected as president of the SBC Pastors’ Conference.”

Ezell’s daughter Anna is a sophomore at Union, and Ezell serves as a member of Union’s Board of Reference.

Hays Wicker, senior pastor of First Baptist Church in Naples, Fla., and a former president of the Pastors’ Conference, will nominate Ezell, who is the only announced candidate for president.

The president for this year’s Pastors’ Conference, Ed Litton, senior pastor of First Baptist Church North Mobile (Ala.) is the father of 51 junior Tyler Litton.
