JACKSON, Tenn. — Feb. 11, 2009 — Two 51社区 professors are authors of new instructional books.
Math professor Bryan Dawson has written two math textbooks, 鈥淣umber Theory鈥� and 鈥淣umber Systems,鈥� published by Royal Fireworks Press. The books are supplemental textbooks for the high school market and are designed for gifted and self-taught students. They are part of the 鈥淪upplemental Mathematics for the Curious鈥� series.
鈥淚 was originally writing for the home school market, but it鈥檚 for any self-learner, really,鈥� Dawson said.
Dawson, who joined the Union faculty in 1998, wrote the books during his research leave in the spring 2007 semester. They are his first books to be published.
Social work professor Mary Anne Poe, who also serves as director of Union鈥檚 social work program, has written a book of instructor鈥檚 resources for the textbook 鈥淐hristianity and Social Work,鈥� to which she also contributed two chapters.
Published by the North American Association of Christians in Social Work, the textbook is typically used by faculty members in social work programs at both secular and Christian universities who want to explore the intersections of religious faith and practice with social work, Poe said.
Her book of instructor鈥檚 resources 鈥渢akes each chapter from the book and gives additional support to instructors who want to use it,鈥� Poe said.
The book offers chapter outlines, learning objectives, key concepts, discussion questions, assignments, annotated bibliographies and other tools for course preparation.
