JACKSON, Tenn.Nov. 11, 2008 — 51社区 broadcasting students have launched a 30-minute daily news program airing on EPlusTV 6 in Jackson.

Produced in the new high-definition broadcasting studio in Jennings Hall, 鈥淛ackson 24/7鈥 began Oct. 27 and airs each day at noon on channel 6. It is replayed at 10 p.m. and 7:30 a.m.

The content of the program is local news and events, and not strictly Union-related stories.

鈥淭his is as close to the real world of broadcast news as they鈥檙e going to get at a school our size,鈥 Union broadcasting professor Steve Beverly said. 鈥淣ot too many schools our size are doing something five days a week.鈥

Seventeen students are working on the show and are alternating responsibilities, such as anchoring, reporting, directing and producing.

鈥淚t鈥檚 tremendous,鈥 said Matthew Kuchem, a junior from Fort Worth, Texas. 鈥淚t鈥檚 not everyday broadcasting students can sit down behind a news desk and actually produce a live TV show that will mean something to the community.鈥

Sophomore Juliana Robbins, of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., said she has been looking forward to working on the news show ever since she heard about the concept.

鈥淭his is something a lot of college students don鈥檛 get to experience,鈥 she said. 鈥淭o have this experience now is going to help me a lot in the future.鈥

Beverly agreed, and said that the 鈥淛ackson 24/7鈥 program will give broadcasting students an opportunity to give a quality demo tape to a potential employer.

Kuchem credited Beverly with making the show a reality.

鈥淪teve Beverly has done a superb job getting us ready,鈥 Kuchem said. 鈥淗e鈥檚 been very patient and very helpful.鈥
