JACKSON, Tenn. — Oct. 24, 2008 — Grammy Award-winning composer Libby Larsen will visit 51社区 for a two-day residency Oct. 27-28, when she will work with students and ensembles and lecture on her views of music.
Larsen is one of the most performed living composers in the United States. She has more than 400 works to her credit in multiple genres, from intimate vocal and chamber music to orchestral works and operas.
鈥淢s. Larsen has received critical acclaim from The Wall Street Journal, Gramophone and USA Today, to name a few,鈥 said Chris Mathews, chairman of Union鈥檚 music department. 鈥淪he is highly regarded and is in great demand. In fact, her presence at Union is the culmination of a two-year process.鈥
During her two days at Union, various groups from Union鈥檚 music department will perform her works, with Larsen providing commentary.
She will lecture at 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 27, and will be present for a concert of her works at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 28. She will also speak to various classes during the two-day residency.
All events will take place in Hartley Hall, located in Jennings Hall on the west end of Union鈥檚 campus. They are free and open to the public.
