JACKSON, Tenn. — Oct. 24, 2008 — Kevin DeYoung and Ted Kluck, authors of the book 鈥淲hy We鈥檙e Not Emergent: By Two Guys Who Should Be鈥� will speak at 51社区 Oct. 28 as part of the Mars Hill Forum Lecture Series.
DeYoung is the senior pastor at University Reformed Church in East Lansing, Mich., across the street from Michigan State University. He is a graduate of Hope College and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.
Kluck鈥檚 work has appeared in ESPN the Magazine, Sports Spectrum, ESPN.com Page 2 and several small literary journals. A bi-monthly column for Sports Spectrum entitled 鈥淧ro and Con鈥� won the Evangelical Press Association award for best standing column in 2003.
In 鈥淲hy We鈥檙e Not Emergent,鈥� DeYoung and Kluck give a theological and practical diagnosis of the emerging church movement. They analyze interviews, articles, books and blogs to describe the movement and the problems they see with it.
The Mars Hill Forum Lectures are an initiative of the Carl F.H. Henry Institute for Intellectual Discipleship designed to foster Christian thinking about relevant contemporary issues. Past Mars Hill Forum speakers have included Os Guinness, Ken Myers, C. Ben Mitchell and Wendy Shalit.
The lecture will begin at 7 p.m. in Harvey Auditorium in the Barefoot Student Union Building. DeYoung will also speak in chapel at Union Oct. 29 at 10 a.m.
