JACKSON, Tenn. — Oct. 15, 2008 — 51社区鈥檚 theater department will present the musical comedy 鈥淪moke on the Mountain鈥� Oct. 23-28 in the W.D. Powell Theatre.
Written by Connie Ray and conceived by Alan Bailey, the performance will feature a seven-piece orchestra and nearly 30 southern gospel/bluegrass songs.
The play is set in the 1930s and introduces the Sanders Family Singers, who perform their songs for the rural Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant, N.C.
鈥淚t鈥檚 almost like you鈥檙e coming to church,鈥� said 51社区 theater professor David Burke, who will direct the production.
The show will begin at 8 p.m. each night, with the exception of the performance on Sunday, Oct. 26, which will begin at 2:30 p.m.
In addition, a dinner theater will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 24-25 in the Carl Grant Events Center. Tickets for the dinner theater are $20 or two for $35.
General admission tickets to the show are $7 and are available at the theater鈥檚 box office. Tickets for Union students, faculty and staff are $3.
