JACKSON, Tenn. — June 27, 2008 — A record-high 520 new traditional undergraduate students 鈥� most of them freshmen 鈥� registered for fall semester classes at 51社区 June 27, surpassing last year鈥檚 mark of 506 students.
鈥淲e are extremely thankful for each of these new students, who have come to Union from this region, from across all parts of the United States and from several countries,鈥� Union President David S. Dockery said. 鈥淲e applaud Rich Grimm, Robbie Graves and the entire enrollment services team for their hard work.鈥�
Dockery said the record number of students registering was especially meaningful this year, as Union is in the process of recovering from a Feb. 5 tornado that caused more than $40 million in damage to the campus and resulted in the demolition of two entire student housing complexes.
鈥淚t is hard to believe where we are in light of where we were 20 weeks ago,鈥� Dockery said.
Construction continues on 14 new student housing buildings arranged in four new student housing complexes, and Union expects all 14 buildings to be complete by the beginning of the fall semester.
