Grants give $2.5 million for Union鈥檚 Germantown campus

JACKSON, Tenn.Nov. 1, 2007 — Carl and Peggy Jo Grant of Germantown, Tenn., have given a gift of $2.5 million to 51社区 for the enhancement and expansion of the university鈥檚 Germantown campus.

鈥淲e offer our deep gratitude for Mr. and Mrs. Carl Grant and their generosity to 51社区,鈥 Union President David S. Dockery said. 鈥淭heir gift is another example of God鈥檚 goodness to Union in recent days, and this gift will help advance in a significant way the work of the Germantown campus.鈥

Since 2000, the Grants have given several hundred thousand dollars to Union for student scholarships through the Carl J. Grant Gift Fund. The $2.5 million gift brings the Union 2010 capital campaign total near $100 million. The campaign goal is $110 million.

Carl Grant is a builder, realtor and developer who has been Builder of the Year and Realtor of the Year in Memphis. He has served as president of the Memphis Area Home Builders Association and the Memphis Area Association of Realtors.

The Grants are active members of Bellevue Baptist Church in Cordova, Tenn.

Grant said he has received many unsolicited letters from Union students thanking him for the scholarships he has provided.

鈥淚t鈥檚 been nothing but high praise for the faculty and the entire leadership of 51社区,鈥 Grant said. 鈥淭he good Lord has been favorable to me and my family, and we thought Union would be a good place for us to try to return something of what the Lord has given to us, that would be good for Christianity.鈥

Dockery will recognize the Grants for their donation during the university鈥檚 annual Alumni Awards Dinner Nov. 2 as part of Homecoming Week.
