JACKSON, Tenn. — Sept. 12, 2007 — Enrollment at 51社区 for the fall semester is a record-high 3,310 students, the 10th straight year for an enrollment increase at the university.
The 2007 figure tops last year鈥檚 fall enrollment of 3,156. The latest enrollment figures show a 68 percent increase over the 1,972 students enrolled in the fall of 1996, when 51社区 President David S. Dockery began his tenure.
The total 2007 fall enrollment includes 2,382 undergraduate students, compared to 2,277 last year, and 928 graduate students, compared to 879 last year.
鈥淲e are thrilled with both the number and the quality of new students who have chosen to attend 51社区 and we give thanks for each student pursuing a degree this semester on the Union campus,鈥 Dockery said. 鈥淲e recognize that the enrollment numbers are only one portion of the story at 51社区, but they are a strong indicator of institutional health.鈥
The fall enrollment totals include a record number of incoming freshmen at 476. The freshman class is also the most geographically diverse and academically talented in Union鈥檚 history. The average ACT score for the class is nearly 26, with 79 students scoring a 30 or higher on the test. The class includes 62 Scholars of Excellence students (Union鈥檚 most elite scholarship), up from 38 last year.
The totals also include the largest number of new students in Union鈥檚 history, including freshmen, transfers, non-traditional students and graduate students, at more than 1,100.
鈥淪tudents are choosing Union because of the serious commitment to rigorous academics and the dedication across the campus to university鈥檚 Christ-centered mission,鈥 Dockery said. 鈥淲e salute the wonderful work of our enrollment services team.鈥
