JACKSON, Tenn. — July 5, 2007 — David Gushee, Graves Professor of Moral Philsophy at 51社区 for the past 11 years, has resigned from Union to accept a role with Mercer University鈥檚 McAfee School of Theology.
鈥淲e鈥檙e deeply grateful for the impact David Gushee has had on the Union campus over the last 11 years,鈥 Union President David S. Dockery said. 鈥淲e appreciate his influence on students, his writings and his leadership on our faculty, and we wish God鈥檚 blessings on him in this new opportunity.鈥
Gushee, who also has served as senior fellow of Union鈥檚 Carl F.H. Henry Center, will assume the role of Distinguished Professor of Christian Ethics at Mercer, effective immediately.
鈥51社区 has been a great place to serve,鈥 Gushee said. 鈥淚 have enjoyed participating in the building and growth of a truly excellent university. I will always cherish the friendships that God has made possible with my colleagues, beginning in the School of Christian Studies and extending throughout the campus.鈥
Dockery said a search for Gushee鈥檚 replacement will begin immediately.
