JACKSON, Tenn. — May 7, 2007 — 51社区 will dedicate White Hall, its new $20 million science building, at a ceremony May 11.
鈥淭he dedication of the marvelous White Hall facility will provide an opportunity for the entire 51社区 community to celebrate all of those who have given, prayed and worked to make this dream come true,鈥 Union President David S. Dockery said. 鈥淭his new addition will provide amazing new research and teaching opportunities for the sciences and healthcare education on our campus. We give thanks to God not just for this most significant academic building, but for all that it will mean for the advancement of the academic mission of 51社区.鈥
The 63,345-square foot facility will house the departments of biology and chemistry, and the School of Nursing. The building is named in honor of Roy L. White of Memphis, the lead donor for the project.
Some facts about White Hall:
- It took 145,000 man-hours to complete.
- It includes 20 teaching laboratories, including a Nuclear Magnetic Resonance facility, three undergraduate student research suites, 42 offices and three conference rooms.
- It contains 1,400 drawers for laboratory equipment.
- It contains a sophisticated $4.2 million ventilation system that recirculates the air every eight minutes.
- It has 66 miles of electrical wiring and 23 miles of computer cabling.
- It contains seven hospital bed bays, six human patient simulators and one operating room.
The dedication ceremony will take place on the front steps of White Hall at 10 a.m. The building will be open for tours following the ceremony.
The event is free and open to the public.
