JACKSON, Tenn. — May 30, 2001 — While parents scurry to register their children for summer activities and day camps, the 51社区 Art Department wants to remind adults to enjoy the summer themselves by offering three adult art workshops beginning in June.
鈥淲hen we become adults, we often lose much of our sense of wonder and discovery that was part of us as children,鈥� said Debra Tayloe, one of the instructors for Union鈥檚 summer art program. 鈥淏y taking a photography class, or doing something with our hands, like ceramics, we can get a little of that back.鈥�
A basic photography class will be offered which will give adults the opportunity to explore the fundamentals of seeing an image while learning the basics of the black and white darkroom process, and is designed for those with little or no experience. Digital and color photography will also be discussed. Each student will need to bring a working film camera.
An introductory ceramics class will allow students to learn clay manipulation, surface decoration and the study of form. For the fourth and final class, students will prepare their work for firing, enjoy a potluck supper and help construct a kiln.
Sunday Afternoons in June for adults ages 55 and over will offer a tour of the gallery followed by a brief lecture focusing on the work shown, as well as a hands-on experience creating the type of work that was shown.
