Ryan Center conference April 27-28 to explore Scripture's unity

JACKSON, Tenn.March 13, 2007 — The Ryan Center for Biblical Studies at 51社区 will hold its biannual conference on Bible study April 27-28.

The theme for this year鈥檚 conference is 鈥淥ne Bible, One Gospel: Exploring the Unity of Scripture.鈥 Paul House, associate dean and professor of divinity at Beeson Divinity School in Birmingham, Ala., will be the plenary speaker.

Other guest speakers leading breakout sessions are Ken Mathews, professor of divinity at Beeson Divinity School, and Grant Osborne, professor of New Testament at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.

Union Christian studies faculty members George Guthrie, Brad Green, Hal Poe, Gary Smith, Kelvin Moore, David Gushee, Jim Patterson, Todd Brady and Mark Dubis will also lead breakout sessions at the conference.

The breakout sessions will focus on key aspects of Bible study in general as well as understanding the Old Testament. One breakout session will focus on Bible material for children.

鈥淢any people in our churches struggle to understand how the Old Testament applies to us and often end up thinking only the New Testament is significant for the Christian today,鈥 said Ray Van Neste, director of the Ryan Center and associate professor of Christian studies at Union. 鈥淎s part of our mission of enhancing and enabling sound biblical interpretation, we are pleased to host this conference and to have such men as these willing to come and teach.鈥

Cost for the conference is $45, or $40 for those who register by March 29. Cost for groups of 10 or more is $35 per person. The registration fee includes all sessions and three meals. Deadline for registering is April 6.

Broadman and Holman Publishers is helping to sponsor the event, and Crossway Books will provide a free Bible to all registrants. Other publishers will be on hand with book tables and discounted products.
