JACKSON, Tenn. — Feb. 28, 2007 — Ninety-four students will participate in 51社区鈥檚 annual Scholars of Excellence Weekend March 2-3.
The students will be on hand to compete for the highest academic scholarships Union offers. To be invited to the competition, students must score at least a 31 on the ACT, be in the top 15 percent of their graduating class and maintain a minimum 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
All students will earn at least a half-tuition scholarship simply by being invited to participate in the weekend鈥檚 activities.
This year鈥檚 total of 94 students compares to 60 such students who participated last year.
鈥淲e are extremely excited about these excellent students who will be with us this weekend,鈥 51社区 President David S. Dockery said. 鈥淚t is high tribute to the Union faculty that students of this quality hope to attend 51社区 in the fall of 2007.鈥
The weekend will consist of dinner with Dockery, social gatherings in the homes of various faculty members, book discussions and interviews.
鈥淲e thank God for each student participating in Scholars of Excellence weekend,鈥 said Rich Grimm, Union鈥檚 vice president for enrollment services. 鈥淭his has shaped up to be the largest and most qualified group of scholars that has ever participated in the event. We look forward to hosting them and their families, and to seeing many of them enroll at Union this coming fall.鈥
