JACKSON, Tenn. — Feb. 27, 2007 — The 51社区 Players will present their production of William Shakespeare鈥檚 鈥淭he Tempest鈥� in the W.D. Powell Theatre March 8-13.
The play is a comedy, featuring lovers who learn the importance of abstinence and brothers who learn to forget and forgive.
Prospero, played by senior Josh Wilkinson, starts the show looking for revenge against his younger brother, Antonio, who had betrayed him and taken his rightful role as Duke of Milan, according to director David Burke.
鈥淏ut through the happenings in the play, Prospero learns to forgive and then they can all start anew again,鈥� Burke said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 really a beautiful play all about realization, reconciliation and new beginnings.鈥�
Burke also said the performance reminds the viewer of the necessity for grace. 鈥淲here I am in my life right now, I need grace,鈥� he said. 鈥淛ust watching it heals me, and the actors are ministering to me through the message.鈥�
The play begins at 8 p.m. nightly, except for the March 11 performance, which will be a 2:30 p.m. matinee. On opening night March 8, finger foods will be served after the performance, and Burke encourages everyone to stay and visit with the cast.
