JACKSON, Tenn.Nov. 2, 2006 — 51 students, faculty and staff members will participate in more than 50 service projects in Jackson and West Tennessee Nov. 8 as part of Union’s annual “Campus and Community: A Day of Remembrance and Service.”

Previously called Day of Remembrance, the event is an opportunity for Union to show its appreciation to the community for its assistance after a tornado hit the campus Nov. 10, 2002, causing more than $2 million in damage.

Following the storm, the Jackson community stepped in and brought everything from food and supplies to the campus, while local residents gave of their time and talents. Construction workers and insurance adjusters moved in to help and the campus was able to function again within a 48-hour period.

Union cancels classes on this day each year to allow students to participate. This year’s Campus and Community activities will begin with a chapel service at 8:30 a.m. At 9 a.m., student groups will depart to their assigned projects, most of which will be completed by lunch or mid-afternoon.

A complete list of projects can be seen at . Any community groups wanting to initiate a project should call (731) 661-5090.
