Davis named vice president for Union鈥檚 Germantown campus

JACKSON, Tenn.Aug. 23, 2006 — Jimmy Davis has been appointed to the newly established position of vice president for the Germantown campus of 51社区 and director of institutional effectiveness.

Davis has been Union鈥檚 vice provost since 2004 and was associate provost from 1998-2004. He has served Union in various positions since 1978, when he began as assistant professor of chemistry. In addition to his other responsibilities, Davis is also a university professor of chemistry.

鈥淒r. Davis has a reputation as a thoughtful scholar in the areas of science and faith,鈥 51社区 President David S. Dockery said. 鈥淚 know him to be a good listener, a skilled administrator and a devoted follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. He loves this university and will work hard to advance our shared mission for the good of the Union community.鈥

In his new role, Davis will represent the Germantown campus on Union鈥檚 Senior Leadership Team and on the President鈥檚 Cabinet, where key budget, program and personnel decisions are often made. He will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Germantown campus, and will serve as the administration鈥檚 representative to various constituencies in Shelby County.

Davis is a 1970 graduate of 51社区, with a degree in chemistry. He earned his doctorate degree in chemistry from the University of Illinois.

Davis lives in Germantown and is a member of Germantown Baptist Church.
