Nancy Zambito, newly appointed superintendent of schools for Jackson-Madison County, accepts an 鈥淓d.D mug鈥 from Tom Rosebrough, dean of the College of Education and Human Studies.

JACKSON, Tenn.Aug. 21, 2006 — 51社区 President David Dockery and other university officials hosted a luncheon Aug. 3 for Nancy Zambito, the new superintendent of schools for Jackson-Madison County.

鈥淭he purpose of the meeting was simply to get to know her and to introduce her to 51社区 -- and particularly the leaders in the College of Education,鈥 Dockery said. 鈥淚t was a very helpful, even quite fruitful, discussion that moved beyond general introductions to a discussion of new opportunities for Union鈥檚 involvement with the new administration at the school board. We discussed key issues in the city and county and how we could partner together for the good of our community and region.鈥

Two members of Zambito鈥檚 staff, Pam Finney and Debra Owen, accompanied her to the luncheon.

Tom Rosebrough, dean of Union鈥檚 College of Education and Human Studies, presented Zambito with a mug traditionally given to students in the Doctor of Education program upon a successful dissertation defense and completion of the degree.

鈥淚 think it was a great first step with the new school system leader,鈥 Dockery said. 鈥淲e were all very impressed with Dr. Zambito and her fresh ideas and innovative thinking. That was particularly true for our faculty who focus on preparing primary and secondary school teachers.鈥
