JACKSON, Tenn. — March 30, 2006 — Jim Beseda, a systems integration engineer for Lockheed Martin Space Systems Co., will talk to a group of 51社区 students April 3 about NASA鈥檚 plans to return to the moon.
鈥淢y goal is to inform and hopefully to energize the Union students about future space exploration,鈥 Beseda said.
Specifically, Beseda will discuss NASA鈥檚 Constellation Program, a proposed 鈥淐rew Exploration Vehicle鈥 and other projects that Lockheed is developing for NASA.
鈥淛im Beseda鈥檚 work as an engineer is every engineer鈥檚 wildest dream,鈥 said Don Van, chairman of Union鈥檚 engineering department. 鈥淗e is part of the team carefully chosen by NASA to provide concepts for the development of a new Crew Exploration Vehicle. The new design of the CEV will help NASA go a long way in fulfilling the president鈥檚 vision for U.S. space exploration starting with a return to the moon by 2020.鈥
Beseda will speak immediately following a meeting of Union鈥檚 Engineering Advisory Council, a group that serves as a resource to Union鈥檚 engineering department. That meeting will feature an energy forum, with Bob Campbell of Panther Oil and Panther Energy speaking about bio fuel alternatives, and Dwayne Matthews and David Nash, of the DANA Corp., of Paris, Tenn., discussing fuel cells and applications.
Beseda is a native of Paris, Tenn., who has been with Lockheed Martin since 1987. He is a 1979 graduate of the University of Missouri-Rolla.
He will speak from 2-3 p.m. in room C-6 in the Penick Academic Complex.
