Clarke elected TISL governor

JACKSON, Tenn.March 3, 2006 — Josh Clarke, a sophomore at 51社区 from Savannah, Tenn., is the new governor of the Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature.

Clarke and a new TISL Executive Council were elected by a convention of college students from across the state recently in Nashville.

Clarke and the new TISL Executive Council will be rebuilding TISL after two years of dormancy. 鈥淚 think that there were many great ideas that were brought up at the convention that can be used to make this year鈥檚 General Assembly better than ever,鈥 Clarke said after his election.

TISL is a statewide organization formed in 1966 to give college students a voice in state government. The nonpartisan organization convenes a General Assembly each year in the state capitol for students to introduce debate and vote on legislation about state issues.

Clarke and the Executive Council said achieving broad participation is a major goal in 2006. The next TISL General Assembly will be Nov. 9-12 in Nashville.
