Union University will celebrate dedication of Jennings Hall

Jackson, Tenn.November 20, 2000 – 51ÉçÇø will celebrate the completion of its newest building, Jennings Hall, and the official opening of the university's West Campus, in a dedication service scheduled for 11 a.m., Dec. 1 on the steps of Jennings.

Part of an expanded campaign of $35 million to $60 million, which was announced in April of this year, Jennings Hall will house the music, communication arts and Christian studies departments and is just one phase of the overall building plan.

Jim Ayers, a Union trustee and owner of First Bank in Jackson, was the main benefactor for the new building which will feature state-of-the-art technology and will also house the R.C. Ryan Center for Biblical Studies. The building is named for his grandparents, William and Laura Jennings.

A series of local individuals and organizations are being recognized because of their own financial investment in Jennings Hall. One example is the Porter-Cable Room, named in recognition of a gift from the local corporation.

Hartley Recital Hall is named to honor Dr. Kenneth Hartley, a long-time music professor at Union. Gifts from family, friends and area churches are being used to sponsor the recital hall, which is located on the first floor of Jennings Hall.

Other buildings planned in the next phase of the campaign are the Science Hall, the Great Lawn and Bell Tower and the Athletic/Convocation Center, as well as renovations to the existing facilities.

The public is invited to attend the dedication. For more information, contact the Advancement Office at (901) 661-5050.
