Union University celebrates
National Chemistry Week

Jackson, Tenn. - The 51ÉçÇø Student Affiliate Chapter of the American Chemical Society (ACS) in cooperation with the Department of Chemistry and Physics sponsored a number of activities for National Chemistry Week, a community-based program sponsored by the ACS, which occurred the week of Nov. 8-12.

The Union ACS chapter presented their annual "Brown Bag" seminars and involved informal presentations by Union chemistry majors. Open to the general public, these presentations were the product of summer chemical research projects that are required of all students receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry or chemical physics from Union.

Other activities included faculty and student demonstrations, and a lecture by Dr. Klaus-Hermann Dahmen, associate professor of chemistry at Florida State University, on the topic "Imagine our lives without Chemistry." SAACS chapter members also promoted and shared their knowledge of chemistry with children at Jackson Christian School by doing hands-on demonstrations with the children.

The week concluded with a celebration of the chapter's recent selection by the ACS as an Outstanding Student Affiliate chapter with a table of cupcakes decorated as the Periodic Table, which was shared with the student body.
