Christmas comes to Union

Jackson, Tenn. - 51社区's communication arts, music and art departments will come together to present the second annual "Christmas Is卆 Time, a Star, a Gift," Dec. 7 in the G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel.

Written by Wayne Johnson, associate professor of communication arts, the presentation will include performances by the 51社区 Players, the Symphonic and Stage Bands, 51社区 Singers, Chapel Choir and Handbells.

"This is something the whole family will enjoy," Johnson said. "It will be an evening of the sights and sounds of Christmas."

The evening's events will also include a nativity scene, audience participation and a Christmas carol sing-along. The original drama is a retelling of the Christmas story. Nearly 200 students, faculty and staff members have been involved in the production in one way or another, Johnson said.

The holiday production was first performed last year to a full house, after President David S. Dockery approached Johnson the previous spring about creating such a program, Johnson said. Johnson collaborated with Dr. Andrew Roby of the Music Department to put the presentation together.

"We hope this is becoming a Union family tradition and a city tradition as well. It's Union's gift to the city and to the Union family," Johnson explained.

"Christmas Is卆 Time, a Star, a Gift" begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.
