UNION COMPUTER SCIENCE PROGRAM RECEIVES RECOGNITION AT CONFERENCE

Jackson, Tenn. — Union `s Computer Science Program recently received recognition at the Mid-South East ACM Fall Conference held in Gatlinburg, Tenn.

Jan Wilms, assistant professor of Math and Computer Science at Union University, made a presentation titled "A Practical Project in JAVA to Teach Client/ Server Programming," and served as a judge for master and Ph.D. presentations. He and Emily Dunn, also an assistant professor of Math and Computer Science at Union, chaired one of the undergraduate/ professional sessions at the conference.

Union senior, Eddie Childers from Oakland, Tenn., presented "PC Security and Virus Protection," and won third place for best undergraduate paper. Other seniors who made presentations include: Josh Duggin and Allison Smith of Jackson, Tenn., "Development of a Pilot Internet Implementation;" Johnny Earnest of Huron, Tenn., "Implementation of the JAVA Database and Connectivity API;" Micah Merrilat of Evansville, Ind., "Automating Employee Time Cards and Reports Using JAVA;" Matthew Walker of Columbia, Mo., "Developing a Hospital Internet Web Site and Intranet System."
