Jackson, Tenn. - 51ÉçÇø's Opera Workshop will present "The Mikado," a
Gilbert & Sullivan comic opera, at North Side High School, Nov. 19-21.
A cleverly disguised spoof of Victorian British manners, "The Mikado" is a full-length, two-hour opera and will be assisted by the Union Singers serving as chorus, directed by Dr. Andrew Roby and the Union Symphonic Band serving as orchestra, directed by Dr. David McClune. Opera workshop director is Dr. Michael Penny. Senior Sarah Flewwellin will serve as rehearsal accompanist and will play keyboards in the orchestra. Sets, props and backstage management have been a project of Mr. Chris Bennett's theater class at North Side High School. The cast includes Christine Barrett as Peep-Bo; Andrew Clenney and Joshua Kautz as Nanki-Poo; Shana Cox and Jenifer Williams as Katisha; Robert Johnson as Pooh-Bah; Jacob Kitchens as Ko-Ko; Audrey Simpelo and Faith White as Pitti-Sing; Chris Streck as Pish-Tush; Brandy Tulo-Lang as Yum-Yum, and Rusty Wilkerson as the Mikado. Williams also serves as costume director. Performance times will be at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 19, 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Nov. 20, and 2:30 p.m., Nov. 22.
