Jackson, Tenn. – October 24, 2000 – A recent telephone poll of registered voters in the
73rd House District taken in cooperation by Union
University’s Center for Business & Economic Development and WBBJ-TV
showed Matt Kisber is in the lead for the State House of Representatives
race. The poll, which was conducted by Union’s Students
In Free Enterprise (SIFE) Oct. 18-19, sampled registered voters who had
voted in at least 10 of the last 20 elections held in Madison County.
Of the 435 people included in the survey, and with a margin of
error of +/- 3%, 97.2% of the voters questioned indicated that they were
likely to vote in the upcoming election. According to Darrin White, assistant professor of
marketing, who ran the research statistics, results showed that 41.4% of
those polled indicated they would vote for Matt Kisber if the election
were held today and 36% would vote for Jimmy Eldridge. 22.6% of voters
remained undecided. In the race for president, likely voters in the 73rd
district gave Bush an overwhelming majority over Gore, 56.3% to 28.8%.
Other candidates totaled 13.5% and only 1.4% of the voters was undecided.
A breakdown of the voters in the district revealed that 24.3% regard
themselves as Democrats, 37.5% Republican, 24.8% Independent, and 13.4%
affiliated with “other” parties. Other results
