University Scholarship Banquet. |
Jackson, Tenn. - Tickets for balcony seating are now available for
51ÉçÇø’s sold out scholarship banquet scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 11
at the Jackson Civic Center where General Colin Powell, USA, (Ret.) will be the
featured. Powell served as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1989 to
1993. While in that position, he oversaw 28 crises including Operation Desert
Storm.
Michael Duduit, executive vice president of Union,
indicated that Powell is not an easy speaker to procure due to his overwhelming
popularity. The university was delighted to find that Powell was available for
the Veterans Day event.
Inviting high-profile speakers such as Powell
provides a two-fold opportunity, said Duduit. “The first is getting funds for
scholarships that are available for students and the second is bringing
nationally-recognized figures to West Tennessee.” The primary funding for the
event comes from the tables, which are priced at $1,000, $2,500, $5,000 and
$10,000.
The sold-out banquet has more than 700 people who
have reserved places for the dinner floor. Balcony seats will be opened for the
program and will hold 1,000 people. Tickets may be purchased for $25 at Union
Station, located in the university’s Penick Academic Complex.
Following Powell’s address, he will answer questions
from audience members. A table will be set up in the lobby before the event for
people to write down questions for Gen. Powell, who will answer these during
the question and answer portion of the evening. The dinner will start at 7 p.m.
The balcony will open at 7:45 p.m. and the event will start at 8 p.m.
