51ÉçÇø’s education department to hold 
Colloquium Series

Jackson, Tenn.October 18, 2000 –The Education Department of 51ÉçÇø will begin a series of colloquium lectures beginning Oct. 23, at 4 p.m. in BAC-44 in the Blasingame Academic Complex. The first lecture, titled “Utilization of Digital Technology in Pre-Service Teacher Education,” will be led by Dottie Myatt, assistant professor of elementary education at Union. 

Other lectures will be presented by professors in the education department and include the following: 

Nov. 27th Camille Searcy - “Have We Turned the Corner on Building Broad- Based Community Support for Public Charter Schools in Tenn.?” 

Feb. 26th Terry Weaver - “Inclusion-Going the Second Mile” 

March 26th Ken Newman - “Writing Toward Test Proficiency” 

April 23rd Ann Singleton - “Preparing Elementary Pre-Service Teachers to Teach Mathematics in Inclusive Classrooms” 

The Colloquium series was started in the spring of 1995 to serve as a venue for department members and selected graduate students to share current research and interests. All Union faculty, staff, and students, as well as local educators are invited to the monthly Presentations. 

The colloquium series is offered at no charge. All Jackson and regional area college and public school teachers are invited to attend. For more information, call Union’s Department of Education at (901) 661-5387.
