Mars Hill Forum to discuss religion,
representation, and contemporary imagery

Jackson, Tenn.October 18, 2000 – 51ÉçÇø’s second Mars Hill Forum of the year will feature artists Theodore and Catherine Prescott Wed., Oct. 25 at 10 a.m. in Harvey Hall. The couple will speak on “Religion, Representation, and Contemporary Imagery: How Christian and non-Christian Art Get Confused.”

“Union has been very fortunate to be able to offer the community lectures by a wide variety of nationally known artists. Ted and Cathy Prescott are two more. I am very excited that we are hosting this high caliber of artists,” said Art Department Chair Michael Mallard, associate professor of art at Union. 

The Prescott’s will hold a second lecture titled “Do Protestant’s Have Bad Taste?” at 12:30 p.m. in the Coburn dining room. Attendees may bring their own lunch or purchase a meal from the cafeteria. 

Theodore Prescott’s education includes Rinehart School of Sculpture, the Maryland Institute College of Art, and Colorado College. With more than 30 exhibitions to his credit, he is currently the department chair of visual and theatrical arts and a professor of art at Messiah college in Grantham, Pa. 

A graduate of the University of Wisconsin and Colorado College, Catherine Prescott also has held 30 exhibits and has won several prizes for her artwork. Her latest award was first prize in painting, for the Art of the State competition at the Pennsylvania State Museum in Harrisburg, Penn. Currently Catherine is an adjunct instructor in art at Messiah College in Pa. 

The Mars Hill Forum is co-sponsored by Union’s Center for Christian Leadership and the Office of Student Services and is designed to encourage conversation among evangelical scholars and university faculty, students and administrators.
