Vote 2000 student poll voices
the thoughts of Union students

Jackson, Tenn.October 4, 2000 – In an official poll taken today by 51ÉçÇø's student government association, Union students voiced their opinions via computers on 4 different issues.

The poll was taken during today's Vote 2000 forum and rally. The issues follow, and the number of votes received are shown to the left of each response.

  1. Should the United States share nuclear defense technology with other nations?
    15 - Yes, share information with other democratic nations
    93 - No, we should not share our technology with anyone
    19 - I am undecided
  2. Should the government supply federal funding for embryo stem cell research?
    25 - Yes, we need to support the development of technology that may save many lives
    67 - No, this research is unethical and should not be federally funded
    35 - I am undecided
  3. Should consumer purchases made via the Internet (example: Amazon.com) be subject to a state sales tax?
    52 - Yes, an internet purchase should be subject to taxation like many other consumer purchases
    63 - No, internet purchases should be exempt
    12 - I am undecided
  4. Should the Reform Party candidate be allowed to participate in the presidential debates?
    87 - Yes, I think their candidates will represent a significant percentage of the populous and their party platform should be represented
    29 - No, I think the traditional format with the Republican and Democratic candidates is sufficient
    11 - I am undecided
