Jackson, Tenn. - "Camp counselor" and "missionary to the Middle East" aren't majors at 51ÉçÇø - but that doesn't mean Union students aren't interested in such missions opportunities. Global Opportunities Week, celebrated at Union Sept. 21-25, gave students the chance to look into mission trips and service opportunities ranging from Backyard Bible Club leader to missionary work overseas. GO Week is an annual event created to highlight missions - past, present and future - focusing specifically on students' roles in the United States and abroad. "Our goal was to heighten awareness of what God is doing in the world through Christian students," Campus Minister Todd Brady said. "Through the promotion of different opportunities, hopefully, there was created a stronger desire to be a part of that." Union welcomed speakers like Becky Castle, discipleship teacher of Bolivar, Mo., and representatives from organizations like the International Mission Board, the North American Mission Board and LifeWay Christian Resources to share information about their programs with students. Representatives and students who had served in missions capacities before set up informational booths in the cafeteria to inform others about their experiences. GO Week also revealed the locations of the 1998 GO Trips, mission trips taken by Union students over Spring Break, which include places such as Chicago, Ill., Dallas, Texas, Costa Rica and Israel.
